EVERYBODY HURTS CHARITY SINGLE TO AID HAITI RECOVERY EFFORTS (UPDATE 1/22)
An all-star cast of artists is being assembled by X-Factor's Simon Cowell to record "Everybody Hurts" as a charity single to aid Haiti in its earthquake recovery efforts. Cowell, joined by UK newspaper The Sun in organizing the single, said, "We are all working hard to make this single a success and to raise lots of money for Helping Haiti. We have a short time to do this and the people in Haiti need as much help as we can give them as soon as possible."
In a conversation with The Sun yesterday, Michael told reporters that the band is honored to play a role, in any capacity, in the overall efforts to provide Haiti with relief in the wake of such tragic devastation:

It is four days before Christmas, and singer/songwriter Scott McCaughey has joined me by phone from his home in Portland. McCaughey is enjoying some time at home since concluding Fall tours with Robyn Hitchcock and The Venus 3, the Young Fresh Fellows, the Minus 5, Steve Wynn and, finally, the Baseball Project. Scott has also just wrapped up three weeks of work with R.E.M. in New Orleans for the first sessions of the band’s fifteenth album.

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody clearly isn't a man worried about meeting his idols. Not if his latest collaboration is anything to go by.
Currently ensconced in a studio in Portland, Oregan and working on his Tired Pony side-project, the singer has revealed that R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck is to make an appearance with the band.
Speaking to Q Magazine, Lightbody said, "Peter is one of my all-time heroes.
"I admire his versatility, he can play any stringed instrument and more besides. I can't wait to see what he comes up with! He's a real innovator, which is great because this is a whole new project."

I read this in my paper this morning and figured I'd pass the info along. I didn't goto the website to find the time it was on. I'm planning on recording it to dvd.
Patti Smith will be the subject of a doccumentary on PBS called P.O.V.- Patti Smith: Dream of Life. It will air on Dec 30th.

R.E.M. set up camp at the venerable Olympia Theatre in Ireland’s capital city and tested new material over five nights before passionate, capacity crowds. This live album was produced by Dublin native Jacknife Lee who, along with R.E.M., co-produced Accelerate, the album which emerged from these shows. “Live At The Olympia” gives fans an opportunity to hear those songs at their earliest stages of development. In addition to the new material, the band also served up twenty-nine other songs, spanning their entire career, all of which can be found on this album.
