Family of faggot fans fly the flag
Meet the Faggot family.
A West Midlands family is playing a central role in the quest to raise the profile of a forgotten British dish - faggots. The Doody family from Wolverhampton has been crowned The Faggot Family in a national competition, and to kick off their reign they will launch National Faggot Week. The family will be touring the country extolling the virtues of the dish, which is best-known for its links with the Black Country. The Doody family were chosen to front the campaign after impressing judges at the Savoy Hotel in London in November. They displayed their fanaticism for the delicacy during quizzes, role-plays and mock commercials. "The nation knows that the Cornish pasty, Yorkshire pudding, haggis and fish and chips are great British dishes, but all too often the faggot is left off that list," said Janet Doody. Her husband Fred added: "It's unfair because faggots were a British delicacy long before any of the others. "The great British faggot is full of flavour and a great belly warmer at this time of year." The family, including Lewis, 13, and Grace, 7, eat faggots twice a week, with mashed potato and mushy peas, and will be launching the awareness campaign on Tuesday at Liverpool University, followed by visits this week to Nottingham, Fans have published the Good Faggot Guide Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham. The competition was organised by faggot producer Mr Brain's Faggots. Faggot facts Faggots were called "savoury ducks" in the Middle Ages Faggots were named after the Latin word for bundle Faggots were originally made with pig's liver and offal Faggots are now made from pork liver and pork Fans have published the Good Faggot Guide

in australia , faggot is slang for a homosexual , thats why reading this thread made me laugh like crazy.
i am not against homosexuals , but the way "faggot" was used in the sentences was funny.

Rubbish Jamie, and I'm amazed that you should think this way. 'Faggots' as slang for homosexuals is an American invention, and the hilarity that has ensued over the 'Faggot family' is yet another example of the cultural invasion that is inexorably making its way across the Atlantic. Faggots are actually very nice. In this neck of the woods they used to be called 'penny ducks' and were recognised as being part of the staple diet of the British working class (albeit under different names) for decades. I get really pissed off when I hear British people denigrate their national cuisine. Most of our dishes developed as a means of providing cheap, nutritious sustenance for workers. We should be proud of them. I love 'em all, steak and kidney pud, liver and onions, skoum and krittle, Yorkshire pudding, Lancashire hotpot and even haggis. Ever eaten haggis? Forget the crap you might have read and try it with mash and turnip. It's bloody great and a lot better for you than that shite that they serve down at McDonalds, Burger King, Uncle Grumpy's Three Day Old Planktonburgers or whatever. ![]() Last edited by Trev : Sun 08-29-2004 at 09:45PM. |

Re: Family of faggot fans fly the flag
I'm sorrryyyy!!!
Well I like haggis, steak and kidney pudding, yorkshire pudding etc. I've seen my dad eat faggots before now, and to be honest I didn't like the look of them. Not that I've tried them, of course. And in all honesty I didn't find that "hilarious" at all. Let them eat what they want! ....oh, and you forgot to mention Uncle Bob's greasy spool burgers, too ![]()

I think veggie haggis is available. Which sounds like a parody to my jaded palate, but there you go. The point about all of this is that when an animal was killed for food, ALL of it was used. Recipes developed over the centuries to make sure that the maximum benefit was gained from an animal. The meat was eaten first, bones, sinews and hide processed and used, and the offal was made into faggots, haggis etc. Which, if you think about it, conveys some kind of honour on the animal. Yes, it died, but nothing was wasted. Processes developed whereby everything from the animal was of use. Think about it. Wasting nothing is a way of honouring the gift of death. |

Re: Family of faggot fans fly the flag
Hey Trev, I understand that if people want to eat Haggis or faggots go for it. Veggie haggis what's the point. Mom tried haggis there is a British store near me and they sell it. Mom thought it wasn't too bad. Every nationality has thier dish of odd meat parts. Dad's family makes these meat pies for Easter that used to contain all kinds of stuff when they could still find it. I've never eaten it even when I did eat meat.
I posted the article since I remembered seeing the Faggot stand at the festival and had no clue what the stuff was. Now I know.

Re: Family of faggot fans fly the flag
I've never eaten faggots to my knowledge. I've eaten haggis once a very long time ago. If it was given to me I'd tried them both though.
