Stand up comedians

Anybody have a favorite to recomend? I'm making a couple CD's for people, and all I can think of is Carlin, Chris Rock, and Sam Kinison....who else is funny??

NO SEINFELD!!! I love the guy, he's very funny....but my God he is still using the same material..

David Chappelle ...!

Y'all have to watch the movie "Undercover Brother" to see him at his best. Or just watch his show on Comedy Central.

Re: Stand up comedians

Richard Pryor has always been my favourite.

Eddie Izzard is very good.

My favourite 'sitting down' !! comedians were Derek & Clive (Dudley Moore & Peter Cook). Peter Cook was a genius.

If you're into Woody Allen his early stand up recordings are hilarious.

Re: Stand up comedians

warby and jim are absolutely right about steven wright, peter cook and eddie izzard.

to that list i'd add the following:

steve martin
richard belzar (weird to think he's now on a cop/law drama)
joe rogan
bob odenkirk and david cross (either individually or together in mr. show)
paul merton
corky & the juicepigs (also a musical act)
robin williams
eddie murphy

i'd say penn & teller as well, but their comedy is more visual than anything, and probably wouldn't come across too well in an audio-only format)

Re: Stand up comedians

Not already mentioned: Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce and maybe Jimmy Carr.

Stewart Lee is an excellent stand up comedian, I saw him recently at the local uni, and his comedy style is great. He tends to disect his comedy as he goes along talking about how well it's working etc. Unfortunatly I don't know if you'll be able to get any stuff by him I really wish I had recorded the show I went to

I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Back in the early days of Comedy Central, I mean the real early days when MST3k, and The Higgins Boys and Gruber were the networks most popular shows, they ran a tribute to a dead comedian. For about 5 years now I have been trying to recall who it was, and it was Bill Hicks!!!!

Thank You!!!

He is very good, and I thought he was dead, but apparently he just changed his name to Dennis Leary.

Re: Stand up comedians

I was going to suggest him but I didn't. I think his humour's too British for a lot of foreign people to understand.

I showed Phoenix Nights to my sister in law who's from Winsconsin and she didn't get a word of what they were saying.

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan. They're not really comedians, but seeing them squabble and pick at each other is a guaranteed laugh!

Re: Stand up comedians

IN my search, I found Mitch Hedberg. I'm sure some of you have heard him, but I just discovered him, and he cracks me up. He has a few files up on WINMX, so if you ever get bored give him a try. He's very fast paced, I'd say none of his routines last more than 30 seconds. So with that many jokes in a set, he tells some that bomb, but overall he's pretty damn funny.

He's probably one of those guys where you are either gonna laugh your ass off, or not think he is even close to funny....not a whole lotta middle ground.
